Who would have guessed?!

At about 2am on July 16 I was up as usual. I decided to check my financial add status for UVU. As I was on my student web page I noticed something in my e-mail inbox. The words "Dean's List" stuck out the most to me and I thought to my self, what could this be? To my utter surprise I found something quite amazing. And this was what it was.

"Dear Dale(that's me):

Congratulations! You have earned the distinction of being on the Dean's List for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences for the academic year 2008-09. You should be justifiably proud of achieving a GPA at or above 3.6 as a full-time student. It is an accomplishment that reflects your dedication and determination.

Spring 2009:

This honor exemplifies your commitment to serious studying and learning. Thank you for your academic commitment as it contributes to UVU's growing reputation as a first choice institution of higher education. We hope you will continue to pursue excellence in your academic career at Utah Valley University.

Best wishes,
David P. Yells
Dean"

In a million years I would have never guessed that I would make any deans list. I was so surprised I called my mother right away. Yes she was awake. She is a night owl like unto my self. For all of you that no me, you hardly ever see me doing school work. Some how I managed to do something I have never done before. Now I'm not saying that I'm not a smart person. I am no genius, but I do consider my self to be able to comprehend a lot of things. I just have to really put my mind to it. I think I may go out and celebrate by buying my self a treat. I mean I buy my self treats all the time, but this one will be special. Yay for me!! Until next time!!

Clifton "DANGER" Chandler

As Many of you may know or not know, I am friend with a young man by the name of Clifton Dean Chandler. About a week ago he chose to blog about me on his own blog. He makes it sound like I begged him to do it, but whatever. It's been done. I thought to my self, blog about him. So to Cliff I say, "here goes nothing."

1) Danger is not his middle name. Though he wishes it thoroughly it will never happen unless he spends thousands of dollars to do so. However, he is dangerous. But not to be feared. A gentle giant he is. Only scary if provoked and even then I wouldn't go running under a rock or something. But lets just say I've never tested those waters.

2) Very few people know how to really push my buttons. Most of them being my family members, whom I love dearly. Cliff has figured out a way to do it and it drives me nuts. I can think of a few times where I have actually yelled or snapped back at him. He has this way of taking whatever situation I seem to be venting about and mock me for it. One time I remember we were playing ultimate frisbee, its hammer time, and I was getting a little frustrated with how people were playing and i was vocalizing my opinion. Well Cliff thought it would be great to mock me in the process and boy did I yell at him. Most likely later I may have apologized, but I don't remember exactly. Oh well, he and I are friends!

3) He sees everything, or so he says. Most of his friends tend to agree. Cliff tends to be pretty observant. He can usually tell when someone is not in the greatest of moods or if they aren't their normal selves. It seems to be pretty hard to keep things from Cliff. A lot of the time he uses this power for good. Mainly to help a friend feel better or just to be observant. He is always watching!! So beware!!

4) Since we have been playing ultimate frisbee together he has gotten much better. I'm no expert but almost every time we play he seems to pull off something amazing. Maybe a finger tip catch or even some amazing hammer throw that seems to make its way to the person he is aiming for. I recently taught him something amazing and I think it has changed his life forever. If you want to know what it is you'll have to ask him yourself. One of these days he'll amaze me by diving full out for the frisbee. I believe you can do it Cliff!

5) Never fear Cliff is here. There in a moments notice he will help. Always diligent to help a friend in need. Whether it be listening with his ear or pulling out one of his three knives he usually caries to serve as protection or opening up some pesky package, he's there to help.

So ladies, if you're looking for a man to spend eternity with, you don't have to look far. He is every girls dream and every mans worst fear. To Cliff I say thanks for being a good friend. I know we don't always tend to agree but we have had many more good times than bad times, to which I am grateful. Stay true Captain Danger!

That Time Again!

It's that time of year again when the city of Provo goes empty and apartments seem to be dark at night before bed time. You all probably know what I'm talking about. If you don't than maybe someday you will experience it yourself. It's that time when school is out and people have gone home for the summer or just for the weekend before school starts again. I've never liked it. You would think that after going through this so many times that I could handle it. You would think that having to do it a lot on my mission that I could handle it. But it's not true. I get to a point where I become so comfortable with my friends and everyone around and the routine I get in. Then things change and life throws you a little twist. I tend to usually handle it pretty quick, but for some reason this last departure of friends has shaken things up a bit. It was quite the interesting semester, but it was a good one. It was my second semester back at school in a while and I'm so ready to be done. Only three more finals left and I'm free to work my summer away. I've made some good friends this past semester and I hope they have enjoyed my company. I hope that we stay friends for a long time and learn to continue to grow and laugh with one another. I think this past year I saw more friends leave and that's always hard to get used to. But I know that I'm strong and that the Lord is there to help me make it through. My friends will always be my friends. I love my parents and what they have done for me. They have helped me out so much in my life. They have supported me in my times of trial and I can always count on them. My hope is that some day I can repay them for there generous and unconditional love towards me. To my parents I owe so much. I owe so much to my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ who have blessed me with such great friends and family.

Let me know what you think about this time of year. Thank you all for being my friends and being there for me when I have needed you. Please enjoy this summer for those of you who are away and are coming back. For those of you who have left because of graduation or other life choices: good luck and I'm glad I got to know you and be your friend. Enjoy life and I hope to see you soon.

You have got to be Kidding ME!

So for those of you who didn't know this already, Disney owns its own city. Well not so much that it owns the city, but it established it in 1994. Celebration, Florida, the name of the city, was built as a new way of life that takes you back to the old way of a good simple life. Talk about a company that has enough money to start its own town. After watching the movie "No Logo" you really do realize what Naomi Klein was saying about how Disney has reached "Brand Nirvana". For those of you who don't know what that means, it pretty much says that Disney is so well known that you will know their brand so well. I mean, they do have their own town. Can you imagine having so much money that you establish a city? Crazy stuff! What's also amazing about the town is the fact that there are no other major brand icons there. Disney has pretty much said that all other brands/franchises need to stay out of our town. It must be killing other companies to be rejected like this.

Here is a link to the cities website for anyone who wants to check it out:
http://www.celebration.fl.us/
And here is what Wikipedia has to say:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celebration,_Florida

As much as brands are everywhere, who cares? I think it annoys me more that people are bothered by brands everywhere. Yeah product placement in shows and other media outlets can get annoying but there are ways around avoiding them. And just because I know a products logo well enough doesn't mean i care enough to do anything about it or buy there clothes. I buy stuff because I like it. And if I bought it and don't like it then I'm not going to go out and buy it again. Brands may be everywhere, but brands don't control me.

When I watch my TV shows I usually notice the product placements that are in the show. I've noticed them more as I've taken this Comms class. It's kinda weird when you look at shows from 10 years ago and notice that the products they used on TV shows were no name brands. You never saw a Coca-Cola or Pepsi can. You never heard people talk about Ikea or Bed Bath and Beyond. Show were just shows and you watched it for the content it supplied. I guarantee that a lot of shows would lose money if they didn't use product placement. You gotta wonder how much companies are paying to put there products on American Idol or The Office.

Web What?

It's crazy the society we live in. It's unbelievable to think how attached to the Internet and electronics we have become. I wonder if I will be able to participate in the class electronic fast we may have. I don't know which one of my electronics I would give up for a weekend. It's so hard to decide.

Web 2.0 is an interesting concept to think about. The fact the everything is beginning to revolve around the Internet. Will we ever be able to live without it? Like I mentioned in class, it seemed hard for my friend to go a few days without Facebook when we went to his families farm. It's not that he was suffering but I think he just wanted to know what was going on. He even used dial up Internet access. Has anyone used dial up lately? It's like pulling out bad teeth. You don't want to have to do it, but it needs to be done. You don't want to have to always use the Internet, but sometimes you just make the sacrifices needed to access it. And if that means using dial up, than so be it. I myself don't have a smart phone yet and I don't know how long it will be before I get one and that's mainly because they are expensive and cost more than I can handle right now to get all the cool features that come with them.

I love my computer. It probably does so many things and I don't even know. I use it for four things mainly. 1) to surf the Internet 2) watch movies and TV shows 3) look at my pictures and videos 4) do school work. How could I even exist without it? You can't even do your school work these days without using a computer. Everyone wants your assignments typed. And I don't own a typewriter. I might be able to find one if I really needed to use it, but finding a computer these days is so much easier.

Who Knows?

I'll be honest. I can say that I've never really that all that much about where my clothes are being made. I suppose that the problem is is that I should be more concerned. I suppose that's part of how we live in our society. We tend to just live our lives day to day and not worry about all the mundane things that are going on around us. I know for sure that I sometimes look at the tags on my clothing or other peoples clothing to see what country they are made in, but I hardly ever think about what the conditions are like in the factories the clothes are made. I guess I've never taken the time to really think about it. And that's probably a horrible thing to say. I guess my hope is that the companies I buy my clothes from are being morally right and not treating their employees horrible.

I do think sometimes about the music I buy and listen to. I'll sometimes buy a whole CD and not listen to all the songs on it because of some of the lyrics or meanings within the songs I choose not to listen to. But the problem arises that, am I still supporting them in those songs even though I am not listening to them? I'm pretty sure I've had this discussion with my mom before. I had a friend tell me once the Michael Buble is not a very nice guy and I wasn't to happy to hear that because I like listening to him and hearing something like that kinda disturbs me. My hope is that it's not true and he is a nice guy.

I feel sorry for the people who do suffer because of the businesses and marketer's who choose to exploit those suffering for their own profit and good. Why does anyone feel the right to treat other humans as less than them and abuse them. Whether you believe in God or not you should always see someone as being your equal as a human being. It's just not fair to see people treated like animals. If you watch the show "Dirty Jobs" on the Discovery channel you will see that without those people who are willing to work the working class jobs than there wouldn't be sky scrapers that have nice comfy offices for some others to work in. We tend to forget that every human is important and plays a vital role in our societies existence. When we forget this principle that's when racism, sexism, or any other type of hatred fall's into play.

Livestrong!

Fads are a killer and I do my best to stay away from them if I can. It kills me when someone just wants to do stuff or buy things because everyone else is doing it or because it's the popular thing. For me, as I mentioned in class, I remember when the Livestrong bracelets came out to support cancer. They were so popular. It seemed as if everyone was wearing them as a fad. It was annoying. I admit I ended up wearing one myself, but it was because my father bought some for the family because he was into biking and actually cared about the cause the bracelets supported. The killer after that was the fact that everybody else was in the market of making those same kind of rubber bracelets. At one point I my-self started wearing the ones that said CTR on them. I haven't worn one in a long time though and I probably wont go back wearing one again unless it's for a pretty good reason.

We really need to stop letting mass media and major companies decide what we should wear or how we should act. When it comes down to it I will make the decisions on the cloths I will wear. I like Old Navy cloths because they are comfortable to me and they are sold at a pretty descent price. I'm the kind of guy who does his best to not spend a lot on clothing unless it's athletic wear. Even then I try to buy sports attire on sale.

THEY are EVERYWHERE!!

I'm not an IKEA follower but I do like its furniture. My mom has it all over her home and I'll probably have some of my own. It was interesting when we talked about how we can consider ourselves a certain brand or type of furniture shoppers. You could almost say that we are what we buy. I like Adidas more than I like Nike. If it were up to me I would buy everything Adidas sports wise and for some of my casual wear. It's not that I hate Nike, I just never really fell their way like I did with Adidas. It might have to do with the fact that I love soccer and I always felt like they were more of a soccer company and now I just like their stuff a lot.

It's so sick to realize that we see so many advertisements a day. In the video it was like 3,000 a day in 1999 and I'm pretty sure it is way more than that today. And I wonder how much of it we actually remember. I know that there are certain adds that I remember. The thing is that they are usually the ones I see either on a daily bases or they really made me laugh.

Also, I drove up to Kearns this past Saturday and I tried to look at all the adds on billboards and of the ones I looked at there was only one black person. The interesting part was that It was an ad for BYU football. You would think there would have at least been another advertisement with people of minority colors on some of the billboards. Because we know that there are more than just white people here.

I really thought it was annoying that they were picking kids to take pictures of in the video we watched that didn't represent me at all. Yeah, I watched TRL, but I think it was mainly for the music. Such a long time ago and I didn't know much then either. But i felt like they picked kids that they thought represented my age group at the time, just ridiculous. I've never had tattoos or spiked my hair. I was never one to go to concerts or be all hyped up about following the crowd. I'm still not that way. I've done my best to not follow the crowd. I tried to avoid Abercrombie and Fitch. I was just fine wearing Old Navy and didn't feel like spending a lot of money to wear clothes that looked the same as other more expensive name brands. I was fine in cheaper clothes that looked just as good.

I just hope that I can avoid being changed by advertising. I don't want to be labeled as someone who follows the crowd or whatever is popular. It makes no sense to let someone control what I do, say, act, or what I wear or listen to. And I'm not a Mooke, violent and carefree and it's ridiculous that the media feels that it's okay to advertise to my generation that that's what is OK to show us. They don't know me and they shouldn't assume to know me. The funny thing is that they only know some of me and it's that part that probably gets me to watch the shows I watch and listen to the music I watch. Weird huh? It also stinks that the media turned girls into or defined them as Midriffs, girls who are sexually active or should look sexy. A 13-year-old girl should never make herself look older than she is. It just doesn't seem right or normal. The same goes for boys the same age. We need to just learn to be ourselves and be happy. People wonder why we are the way we are, and it's probably because we are letting the media tells us who we are. That's not nor right and it should never be that way. It's our responsibility to tell them who we are. We need to take control. We have to tell them what we think is cool.

I'm talking about "IT" again!!

So what are we going to do about the problem we have with racism? Is it going to go away? It seems like it may not any time soon. It feels like we in society keep perpetuating the problem of racism. I've said it before and I'll say it again, let it go and then we will be better people than we were before. Don't forget racism or don't put it on the back burner, but why do we still allow racism to control us and who we are?

We had a very interesting talk in class about the different shows we see on TV and how TV is portrayed in a completely white world. I didn't make the comment in class but I think the region you live in in the United States might make a difference as to what shows are being played and at what time. I'm probably wrong. I do realize there are not as many black TV shows as whites TV shows but it has improved dramatically in the past few years. We began to talk about the "token" people of minorities that they have on white TV shows and it goes both ways. I thought about it in class. The shows that I have seen where the family's are of a minority race seem to have a token white person on the show. It's kinda interesting. I don't have a problem with it, but i just thought it was something to mention. And I also wanted to mention all the famous black actors or actors of other minority backgrounds that are being more recognized in the movie and TV world. I like Will Smith and I have never had a problem with him being black. I don't care about the color of his skin. I just like the movie he has been in and I use to enjoy watching the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. And I think Bill Cosby is hilarious. He does a good job of making jokes not about racism but just about life and the funny things that happen in it.

Like I mentioned before, I think that racism today can stem from a lack of education and the world around us. The more we become educated both school wise and street wise the better off we will be. The world needs to use its common sense better. I need to use common sense even more my self. I hope I can be better.

Not My Kids!

I don't care what people say but I'm going to do my best to make sure my kids aren't subjected to the dirty stuff represented in the Hip Hop video we watched in class. I'm going to do my best to sensor what they watch, read, see, or listen to while they are living under mine and my future wife's roof. I know I wont always be able to control what happens as soon as they leave the house or grow up and move on, but I hope that I can teach them correct principles to be able to govern them selves to make the right choices.

I'm great full for the education I've received, making it possible for me to determine what right choices I've need to make. I'm glad that I've been given the ability to see more than what some Hip Hop videos supposedly have to offer. I will admit that I use to listen to some of the music that was in the video we watched and I will say that it didn't make me a better person. I've become a better person since removing that type of music from my life. Some people might say that I turned out just fine having listened to the type of music I did or making the mistakes I made growing up. I'm not blaming my younger self problems on music, but it can have an affect on a person. Maybe I got lucky. Not everyone is going to be lucky like I feel I am and turn out okay. I'm not saying I'm perfect, but I do love my life and where I am in it. I still listen to Hip Hop, but not on the scale portrayed in the video. That stuff in my opinion if filth. It doesn't do anyone any good. Yeah it may have a good beat, but the lyrics can represent so many wrong things with our society. No matter what anyone says, music like that is more than just the beat. In all genres of music its more than whats in the beat. There is so much more to music than the beat that moves your body.

Like I mentioned in class I think that having a good education helps a person learn what they must do treat others with respect. With a good education you can determine that humans are more than just flesh and bone or just an object. You learn of the joy of a good friendship, the beauty of art, the joys of music that will hopefully not defile the brain, the peace that if you work hard you can do so much good with your life.

It may be true to say that you are what you listen to. I hope the music on my blog can portray a little of who I am. Remember I'm not perfect and I can still improve on the type of music I listen to. I'm still trying to become a better person.

When will "IT" go Away?

Why does it have to be this way? When are we going to decide to remember the past and learn from it and then let it go? I hate racism. Nothing good comes from it. It helps no one and everyone who chooses to be racist is ruining themselves. I saw portions of it on my mission in South Africa and it was never good. I remember one time when one of my mission companions, who is black, called me racist in jest, but it still bugged me a little. He and I grew to get along well and became good friends. Sometimes we still talk. I loved and still love the people of South Africa. They taught me so much, and we did not sit there and talk about race all the time. We talked about what we enjoyed and loved as individual humans. The people that became my friends in South Africa did not care what color my skin was and I did not care what color their skin was.

Like I mentioned in class it still feels like racism exist because people would rather dwell on the past and use it to there advantage in any argument they make. I can not be blamed for what my parents or grand parents did and so it is the same for what our ancestors may have done. I'm not them. My parents and grandparents are in no way racist. I am my own individual and I am making my own choices. If someone wants to get mad at me, make sure I caused the problem and not some body else. I hope to the best of my ability that I haven't offended anyone with this post.

I know I'm not perfect and I judge wrongly sometimes. It's part of being human, but I do my best to become better. I try to overcome being judgmental and learn so that I can better myself and those around me. I don't feel like I have grown up in a racist society but I know that racism exist in our society. My only hope is that the next generation learns from our mistakes and remembers them but does not dwell on them.

Disappointed

Can I just tell you how disappointed I am in Under Armour. I really didn't like that ad that we saw in class. I don't think that they should have ever gone that way in their advertising. Under Armour gear has always in my opinion been an athletic or active wear. It almost makes it seem like if you wear their underwear you are interested in being sexually active. Not to say that's what they are going for, but I mean come on, that's just ridiculous. As I'm writing this blog my friend says, "Wait your not interested in being sexually active if your wearing Under Armour? That's what I thought."
Of course he was joking but that just proves how ridiculous the ad is.

I feel the same way about Axe body spray. Why can't a guy just walk around smelling good just to impress the ladies or just to get a complement? Why do I have feel like that if I'm going to wear Axe that I'm asking woman to come after me sexually? I enjoy wearing Axe because i think it does make me smell nice and I also enjoy the compliments that I get form the opposite sex. If any of you have seen the new commercial for Axe's new body spray, Dark Temptation, then you can understand why it's annoying what they do. It's kind of a disturbing commercial. The spray turns the guy into chocolate and the women are fawning all over him. At one point in the commercial one of the girls takes a bite out of the man's chocolate back side. Weird! Check out their web site to read what they have to say about their Axe body spray. If you click on the web site, then click on the body spray section and read what it says.

http://www.theaxeeffect.com/axeproducts.html

Their commercials also demean woman. It makes them seem like just an object. The woman are always flocking to the guy like he is the last man on earth. A friend of mine made a comment that also makes it seem like the women can be controlled simply by a smell. The Dark Temptation commercial also says that it's as tempting to woman just as much as chocolate is to woman. And I'm pretty sure that not all woman "love" chocolate.

Yes Sir!

I guess I never really cared to much about whether or not I have been called a boy in the past, but the more I think about I appreciate being referred to as a man, but I don't think I'll be to offended at this time in my life to be called a boy. When we look at colleges sports and how media refers to team they don't call them the boys football team or the girls soccer team. They refer to them as the MEN'S football team or the WOMEN'S soccer team. I wonder what kind of guff a reporter would get for calling the UVU or BYU woman's soccer teams girls soccer teams. You might almost think of it as disrespectful because they are at a higher stage of life and have moved on past being girls. I do my best to refer to my girlfriends as ladies when i say hello or goodbye to them in groups. It does seem more respectful and I've just gotten used to saying it. I do however find my self using "guys" in the plural sense when referring to a group of men and women together. I guess I can't think of a better term at the moment. Does anyone out there have a good one for me to use when refering to men and women in a group?

And I'll tell you right now that I don't mind being called Sir. But for men it seems more distinguished and it makes you feel more important. It seems quite the opposite for women. It almost seems that most woman don't like being called Mam because it denotes being older than they really are. It almost seems like that's the way society has caused it to be used. To almost denote a negative context. I wonder how it got that way. I don't think I have ever used the term mam in a negative way, that I know of. But I also don't go around calling all woman, mam.

Strong and Manly

Having grown up in a pretty good sized family of seven boys there was a lot of competition and fighting that went on. Most of us played one sport or another growing up, whether it was soccer, football, basketball, baseball, or track and field. Many of us still love playing. Now you might think that because of this sporty life growing up that we were all pretty much jocks. Not true. Many of us enjoyed singing in choir. My oldest brother really enjoys reading and is pretty darn smart. Three of my brothers have daughters to raise of their own now and experience all different kinds of supposed girly things. I can enjoy a good chick flick if it's worth it, but I do love my Super Hero movies. You might also think that none of us would have ever worn pink, but that has changed as well. Now I know we made fun of each other if anything like that happened growing up, but isn't that what boys do a little bit. I suppose it might have been a little different if I had any sisters, but i didn't. I'll admit that I own a pink dress shirt and a tie that has pink stripes on it.

Growing up I'm pretty sure I lived with that "tough guise" attitude. I wasn't very mature then. I didn't always make the right choices and sometimes still don't. We all have to grow up and hope that we can change and better ourselves. We need to have good role models that are going to teach us to respect each other. And as much as I may have fought with my brothers, I didn't walk around school fighting others.

Concerning the video we watched in class, it seemed weird that even though it focused on how violent men are, think of all the men who aren't violent. Violence is what portrayed a lot in media. It's always the violent stuff that is going to appear on the news. How often do you see all the little acts of kindness that appear on TV performed by people. Yeah you see acts of kindness in news reports but they are usually pretty big ones. I hope this makes some sense. It's weird to think that we might live in a world that violence is prevalent. We need to better ourselves and set the examples for others. Maybe then society will change its attitude about this "tough guise" attitude.

My Mother, the Baby Boomer!

Much like we talked about in class and as I've mentioned before, people sometimes choose to follow what the media is telling them instead of what we should be telling each other. I love my mother and consider her to be one of the most wonderful women I have ever know. She is not a college graduate and I hope people don't look at that as a form of weakness. She does so much for my family and those around her. Some people in our society, today, might see her as someone who conformed to the old ways of woman staying at home and not being independent. To those who might say this, I say you are wrong. Yes she did stay at home and raise seven boys, but I'm sure we are all great full for what she has done for us boys. She made us into the men we are today. She took us places and attended all our choir and sporting events. Where was my father during all of this? He was at work, but also there to help take care of us boys when he was home. I remember him picking me up after school on his way home from work. He has coached baseball for some of us boys and attended our various activities when he could. Together, not separate, my parents raised me and my six brothers.

I know my parents did their best to raise us to be respectful to woman and to see them as equals. I want to be able for women to be seen as very important in the eyes of men. I want to be able to be married to a woman whom I see as my equal or even better. My father always told me to marry a woman that will make me want to be a better man. You can look at that as not just being a better man, but a better person.

My mother has a strong opinion and is willing to share it with others. I'm pretty sure she is proud of the life she has lived and I hope she regrets none of it. I hope to marry a woman as spiritually and emotionally strong as my own mother. Society needs to leave woman alone. Society needs to let us make the right choices and we can't let media tell us who the "right" woman is. I hope this has all made sense to what we talked about in class. Let me know what you think as classmates.

Sweetest Job EVER!

Surfing the Internet last night I came upon this article on Yahoo.com.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20090113/od_afp/lifestyleaustraliatourismoffbeat_20090113032028;_ylt=AjgJI7.ajF8zI.yOC5HdDisazJV4

A company based out of Australia is offering an individual, picked by the company, $105,000 American dollars for six months of work. Anyone in the world can apply for this position. The person hired will live in a home on an island on the Great Barrier Reef. They will take pictures and videos of the world around them and in the reef, and show it to the world via a blog on the Internet and interviews with the media. The company is offering this job to help promote tourism in the area.

After I reading this article I'm pretty tempted to apply for the job myself. Getting this job would open so many doors to the world of communications. It would give great experience to understand what goes on a little when it comes to the news and how people are portrayed in it. Maybe the practice of writing a blog for this class would help for writing a blog for this job. It will be interesting to see how the media covers this job as i t goes forward in the hiring process and the six months that the person will live on the island.

I initially thought in a stereo typical way that the only people who might want this job are oceanographers or islander types. I originally thought these people might be the only ones with the skills to accomplish this job, but as I read it and thought about the job I realized anyone can do it if they just have the desire. Anyone can do it as long as the have the passion to want to do it and can prove to the Australian company hiring, that they are the person for the job. I guess I can ask, would you apply for the job?

First Time

Wow, what can I say? Never blogged before, but this should be interesting. Media is around so much. It's amazing what kind of interesting things you'll find on the Internet. I like sports and that's probably what I notice a lot. The funniest thing I've seen lately concerned Donavon McNabb, quarter back for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was scrambling out side the pocket and up the sidelines on the side of the New York Giants when he was pushed out of bounds. In his excitement he picked up a phone on their sideline and pretended that he was talking to someone; maybe a coach of the Giants team up in the coaches booth. The things some players do. He of course got penalized, but I don't think he was to worried about it. I saw this on NFL.com and Yahoo.com. The media likes its stories.
